AC/DC Drummer Beats Wife Assault Charge - Top Story of 07
SleazeRoxx.com reports: The drummer of rock band AC/DC has escaped a criminal conviction because it would hurt his career - despite admitting he assaulted his former partner in Mount Maunganui.

Phillip Rudd, who was born Phillip Hugh Norman Witschke Rudzevecuis, pleaded guilty to one charge of common assault when he appeared in Tauranga District Court yesterday.

The self-employed musician pleaded guilty after police reduced the charge from the more serious offence of male assaults female, which attracts a prison sentence of up to two years.

But Judge Robert Kerr discharged Witschke, 53, without conviction. His lawyer, Matthew Ward-Johnson, successfully argued a conviction would have a significant impact on his client's musical career and therefore outweigh the gravity of his offence

Bon Jovi Rehab - Top Story of 07

SleazeRoxx.com reports: Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora has entered rehab, a rep for the band tells PEOPLE exclusively.

"Richie Sambora has entered an undisclosed treatment facility in Los Angeles," the rep said in a statement. "He asks that you respect he and his family's privacy at this time."

The specific nature of Sambora's substance-abuse problem was not disclosed. [but according to Perez Hilton, Richie was "blitzed" during the taping of the Bon Jovi Unplugged episode on Tuesday. Maybe he was trying to keep up with Jon's new country direction?

Axl Vs Fan - Top Story of 07

Earvolution reports: Guns N' Roses concert goers should come to expect late starts. But, it didn't stop one fan from expressing a little anger over waiting for Axl in Australia. WENN reports that a fan tossed a drink at Rose when the band got off to a late start for a Brisbane gig.

Apparently the band didn't start until nearly midnight and some fans who paid well over $100 dollars a ticket weren't happy. The report says that not long into their classic "Welcome To The Jungle" someone hurled a can at Axl.

In response, Rose reportedly challenged the audience, "Is that what you want? You want a battle. If you're going to act like that, then you know I don't have to be here." Despite some reported long disappearances during songs, Rose did finish the show

Old Interview With Blur

Look out! The pop nerds are back. And this time they mean business!

Damon Albarn is British pop's most impotent sex god. And about as normal as a man in his position can be. Eva Kvanta met him and Blur's guitarist Graham Coxon to discuss the new album "The great escape" and the difficulties in leaving "the late obstinate age" behand them.

"Other people would turn around and laugh at you, if you said that these are the best days of our lives" (Best days)

Every time Blur have to rummage through their memories from the year nineteen-ninety-two, it's like pulling off a big old plaster which takes the scab with it and leaves a half-healed wound. What they'd really like to do is, of course, to forget it all, they've had enough of their past and nineteen-ninety-two in particular, but it isn't as easy as that. Just understanding is difficult. For those of us who have always perceived the band as four cheerful guys at "the late obstinate age", it's almost impossible to grasp how a measly annus horribilis could turn Damon into a Prozac-crunching psycho. Or how the same year could be behind Graham's legendary capacity for drink. It just doesn't make sense. Not when they're so good-looking, in their freshly-pressed suits and sparkling Smash Hits smiles.

On the other hand, saying that nineteen-ninety-two gives Blur no peace would be an exaggeration. After all, it's history, a time which pales with every new, amazing proof of their popularity. "Parklife" has sold two million copies so far and the new album "The great escape" is proof as good as any that Blur are flying up and on. Even if today, it's a bit wobbly.

"Damon pretends that his microphone is a c**k. Damon bangs his head against the speaker. Damon is an idiot. Blur are one long sneer. They don't have anything to offer, except malicious pleasure. And people lap it up, like all the other crap that's cast in their direction, because they're too numbed to care." (Live review in Melody Maker, August 1992)

Graham Coxon, guitarist and the main cause of the recent swarm of Fred Perry boys in granddad glasses, is sitting foetal-style. At five o'clock in the afternoon his hair still looks like he's just got out of bed - it must've got late at the Mixer last night. He apologises with a twentieth hollow cough: "I'm sorry I'm not more lively. It would've been easier if it hadn't been for the disgusting environment. I hate places like this."

The disgusting environment in question is a fairly typical record company office with stereotypical furniture, lead-grey carpet and haughty glass doors. A place which has conciously been made inhospitable to make you feel submissive, lower down in the hierarchy than you actually are. Graham's gaze flickers unhappily behind his glasses and he pulls his knees closer to his chest.

"I'd rather sit in a pub and talk... Apart from that - theoretically - it's fine, the way it always should have been. Just take the way the magazines come to Blur instead of the other way around. Melody Maker have been going on for ages about doing a big cover story, but we've just sulked and been difficult generally."
What, exactly, did they do that was so awful?
"They're horrible to bands! The don't seem to understand that a band, if you happen to be a member of one, is a very important of your life. To have that insulted in a completely meaningless way by bored journalists and ordinary people is... not very nice."
Why do you care what journalists write?
Because you want to be liked.

"Dan Abnormal, not normal at all ... has dirty dreams when he's asleep, 'cause Dan's just like you and me." (Dan Abnormal)

Dan Abnormal himself, who looks pretty normal in blue-and-yellow eighties Adidas trainers, old top and baggy jeans, has always found his own ways of cultivating his oddness. Underneath it all he's a pretty uncomplicated guy, a good drinking-pal with a sensitive side. All of his life has been spent in artistic environments, and this has given him a picnt eccentricity. On top of this he's bright - he knows exectly how he wants other people to perceive him and lately he has also managed to acheive this. Basically, he's become a mature and self-confident young man.

"I've always been fascinated by normality", says Damon, in a tone usually reserved for things that are... fascinating. "In fact, my main driving force at the moment is the will to become more balanced. Although I don't think there's much chance of my becoming completely normal, if I go to the pub and get drunk something unusual always happens because I'm famous. But I'm not interested in going out to expensive restaurants, although I do go to a few clubs which I guess are mainly for famous people."
Browns?
"No, I don't go to Browns. I've been there, but I definitely don't go there regularly. I move in... normal circles."

He's in a funny mood, is Damon. Admittedly, his eyes glitter like prisms whether he's talking about Michael Stipe's career curve compared to his own or about Japanese women's legs ("They've got awful, crooked legs. It's because of all the in-breeding.") and he often lets out a clucking old man's laugh. But he still seems anxious.

Later, in the taxi, he's really distant. He talks of being worried about the cats - one of them is upset that he and Justine are hardly ever at home and has started pooing his revenge in their beds - but his attention is elsewhere. He's also skimming through a bunch of photos of grand, manor-type houses, but seems unable to decide which of them is to be used for the "Country house"-video. Just before he lets me off in the hotel ghetto in Bayswater, he informs me that he's on his way to hospital to visit his sister. She was supposed to give birth a week ago and now she has to go into labour artificially."Family troubles", says Damon and smiles bravely.

Somewhere, beyond all common sense, it's hard to admit that pop stars have their share of everyday worries. You'd really like them to live together in a fairy-land full of aestethics, passion and naughtiness in a wild union. "Even I believe that", says Graham seriously. "My sense of reality is pretty weird and I'm not very good at taking responsibility. But at least now I've got a car, and I've also got a bit better at socialising. I can put on an act sometimes."

"You've got to have the best tunes, or that's it, you've blown it." (It could be you)

"Excess", says Damon with emphasis. "That's basically what the whole record is about. But not rock'n'roll excesses, it's about a more everyday phenomenon and how you try to escape from it all. I've worked harder on "The great escape" than on any of the three earlier records, and now it's finished I'm much more relaxed than when I was doing it." "We're not as assuming any more", says Graham, and adds that he's very happy with the guitars. "I've been listening to a lot of violent music which is more about sound than songs and I've got a lot of inspiration from that. I like American punk, little groups like Fugazi, Pavement, Lucious Jackson and Unwound. We've done one song called "Entertain me" which could be described as industrial. "Country house", our new single, is on the other hand is very typical of Blur as people usually see us. A bit like "Parklife" and "Sunday Sunday", strutty and unsophisticated. But we can be sophisticated too."

When you listen to "Modern life is rubbish" and "Parklife" it's hard to believe anything other than that they were produced - with one year between them - from sheer creative zest. According to Damon, though, Blur's second album was preceded by "a sixteen month hell" and that "Parklife" was recorded to stop them from ending up sitting in the gutter in Camden and begging for the money for a bag of chips. Damon, you see, has experienced the slightly unusual phenomenon of a pop group going broke. Yes, it can happen. Especially if you - like Blur - start off your career with a three-thousand-pound record deal and then lose your modest earnings to an evil manager. "We didn't really have any money, at least not proper money, until March this year."
Are you rich now then?
"Yes."
Yes?
"Let me put it this way - I could buy myself a mansion and a Rolls Royce tomorrow. But I don't want to do that, I've put my money away. One day I might need it. At the moment I'm not very interested. But it is nice to be able to go out for dinner whenever you feel like it."
You and Justine have been together for a really long time, considering the circumstances.
(The circumstances, in case you've spent the last two years in Siberia and don't know - are as follows: Damon lives wih Justine Frischmann, lead singer in Elastica. Because of Justine's androgynous, dominant image she gets a lot of indecent proposals which she often accepts. Damon has a reputation for being a bit of a casanova, although he has improved recently. The fact that they've sold one and two million albums respectively, and that they are hot stuff in the British gutter-press doesn't make the situation any less tense.)
"The fact that it works probably has a lot to do with the fact that we spend so much time apart. I don't actually think either of us is very good at spending long periods of time together, say six months in a row."
What's it like living with a woman who publicly says you're one of the most asexual men she's ever met?
"But it's true, at least partly. Anyway, I thought it was quite a funny thing to say."

"We reflect our generation. A generation that can't find anything positive in life. An emptiness." - Blur, interviewed by SLITZ in august 1992.

"The great escape" isn't a "F*** you!" to the doubters. It is perfectly finished for its own sake and has little to do with the past.

1992 has been packaged elsewhere. The documentary "Starshaped" is a monument to self-destruction, a sarcastic 90's version of Staffan Hildebrandts anti-drugs [alchohol, tobacco and narcotics] films, but more convincing because this is real. Now you can watch Damon Albarn puke up his tax-free booze at the airport in Hultsfred. In ultrarapid. Backwards.

"That film...," says Graham, shaking his head ominously. "It terrifies me. That's why I never watch it. At the same time we've always liked the idea of being weak and put-upon. In the beginning we always were. Then the audience was usually inattentive, which made us work harder. But it's hard when they give you too much work to do. Last year it snowballed, we were constantly on tour and all the time more gigs were being booked. After a while Damon started to behave pretty weird, the lack of sleep made him over-emotional. But we're adults now. We can't act like kids any more."

During the past hour Graham has been slowly and methodically smoking half a packet of Kents, gone on with my Silk Cuts and fingered his way through every loose item on the conference table. When he spots a pen he immediately starts attacking the interview schedule, where "Evan" Kvanta's "Face to face interview" has been scheduled last, after the telephone interview with Javier Cervantes from Brazil. Graham presses hard with the pen and lets jagged, angry flowers and symbols from playing-cards appear. The only time he stops fiddling is when we talk about mods, then he uses both hands to illustrate descriptions and theories.

"I've been getting quite interested in skateboards recently. I always seem to be into something or other."
Have you any idea how many people are going to be heart-broken when they read this?
"Oh, everyone's basically a mod anyway."
How do you make that out?
"To most people I know it's important to look OK. Although I have to add I don't feel like that today. Right now I look like shit."

"He's knocking back Prozac ... It's the century's remedy" (Country House)

When Damon hears that his story - the one about the handsome young pop sensation who almost let alcohol and cocaine take him down into the swamp of despair, but who was saved in the nick of time by the three P's (Prozac, psychologist and principles - not forgetting cooking) - has been given a whole spread in Sweden's second biggest tabloid, he laughs heartily.

"Yeah, I mentioned that in passing. And the reason was that I wanted to balance out the excessive glamourisation of cocaine and - more worryingly - heroine. That's not what music is about. And it's important to look after your body. People tend not to care and they end up looking like shit. And feeling like shit. But I'd also like to point out that I'm not some reborn Henry Rollins-type."

The fact that Damon likes to "expose" himself, almost as much as he likes to talk about doing it, has been noted before. Today he's not in a playful mood, but that isn't about to stop him. It's just going to be exposure in a more literal sense.

"On one occasion I pulled my trousers down during a show. It was in Canada and it has actually been documented on film. It was shown on Canadian TV as well and since then we've done really well there. The "Starshaped" video is full of scenes where I pull my trousers down, but more metaphorically."
You through up in it too.
"M-hmm, noone's done anything like that before! We're going to make another film like that this autumn, but I don't know if it's going to be as successful. We're a bit more timid these days."

"Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!" (Blur fans in Wolverhampton 1994)

"People have to see you suffer in order to be able to take you into their hearts."

Damon sounds pretty objective when he says this, there isn't a trace of disappointment in his voice.

"No, I haven't the energy to be angry. Two years ago I was, but this is a new time and I myself am completely different. Before we played the Roskilde festival I watched all the material that was going to be clipped into the "Starshaped" video, among other things a one-and-a-half hour recording from Roskilde three years ago. It felt completely unreal. It's amazing how quickly things get pushed into the past. And you have to pick yourself up again. It's not impossible, we've done it."

Pink Floyd Reunion Possible

12/20/2007
.
(Gigwise) Pink Floyd's drummer Nick Mason has hinted that the band could reform once again following their show at Live 8 in 2005.

Mason said that the band's appearance at the awareness raising event in Hyde Park two years ago "showed that the door can be opened".

"If there was a suitable reason or things change a bit in the next year or two and everybody suddenly thinks, 'Well, actually, I really would like to do that' then I think it'll happen," he said. "But until there's that sort of sea-change, the only thing that would generate it would be something the equivalent of Live 8."

Interview

Good Charlotte - The Revival Starts Here
"An interview should be like a conversation, you know? Not a boring question-and-answer session."
That's Joel Madden's way of telling me that he's enjoying our little tête-à -tête. The clean-cut adult übersexual Good Charlotte frontman has lost his boyish charm, having grown into a bona fide rock star: the cut-off sleeve black tee, the 48-hour beard and a look that you, the average guy, would interpret as "Keep Your Hands Off My Girl".
Funnily enough, that's also the title of Good Charlotte's first single off its fourth album, Good Morning Revival, a title full of significance. Lyrically, it doesn't sound much different; Joel continues to dwell on love ("Where Would We Be" reminds us of his recent break-up with Hilary Duff), Hollywood (in "Misery", he sings, "Look at all these plastic people") and exorcises old
demons; musically, it's a new territory for the band, who has outgrown all that adolescent punk pop which characterized the band. Finally. "That wasn't what we really wanted to do," says Joel, "We wanted to play stuff that we actually liked." He reveals that the band felt "trapped in an image," and this album releases them of some of those trappings. "I mean, we've grown up, just like our fans."
Good Charlotte suffers from the Misconception Syndrome, where a band is placed in a category
it doesn't really feel it belongs to. "We're not what people think we are: a bunch of teens who never grew up and who can only play poppy songs." While the album takes some tentative steps into old Charlotte territory, the band deserves the merit of having made its most experimental album to date.

SUM 41 Interview

Livewire: So, in my past interview with you a couple of years ago, you refer to yourselves as the "ugly goons from Canada." Now with the new hairstyle has that changed? I think you're better looking.

Deryck: I just refered to ourselves last night as "four ugly assholes having a good time." (laughs)

Livewire: What made you decide to go for the new look?

Deryck: My natural color is blonde and that's what it's been in a lot of the videos - now it's black, I like to switch it up.

Livewire: Do you still talk to Paris Hilton?

Deryck: Uh no. If I saw her I would, but I don't talk to her on the phone or anything.

Livewire: Are we going to see any naughty videos of you and Paris on the web?

Deryck: No definately not!

Livewire: Who are you dating now?

Deryck: I really don't like talking about that stuff, man.

Livewire: How have your musical tastes changed over the past 5 years?

Deryck: For us, I mean every record sounds a little bit different and we're just getting better and growing - when you start so young there's just a natural growth. We're just in a position that we're touring a lot - I mean most people write from life experiences and when you're home you do the same thing over and over again and when we're on the road we're constantly doing something different. I mean we're travelling the world and getting more life experiences than the average 21 year old.

Livewire: How's the new CD going? Is it your best to date?

Deryck: Yeah, by far. I've always thought our records keep getting better, but this is by far our best album.

Livewire: Tell me some really hot underground bands that you dig today.

Deryck: A band called Billy Talent, from Canada. They're absolutely amazing. They's probably one of the best bands today. There's another band called No Warning. They're really cool - that's about it really.

Livewire: That's it?

Deryck: Yeah.

Livewire: Wow!

Livewire: What do you say when people call your music bubblegum punk?

Deryck: We don't even consider ourselves punk. We're just a rock band. We want to do something different. We want to do our own thing. That's how music has always been to us.

Livewire: How do you feel about the U.S. getting Bush (and the world for that matter) for another four years?

Deryck: Four more years and many more tears.

Livewire: Is Bush a war criminal?

Deryck: Oh, totally - he's a fucking terrorist!

Livewire: Do you wish you could have voted in the election?

Deryck: I wish I could have voted so bad!!

Livewire: Do you think that the 50 some million American voters that voted for Bush are dumb?

Deryck: It was more like people were afraid. The election was won by fear. It's not that people are stupid - it's just that they're afraid.

Livewire: Is Canada really all that much different then the U.S.?

Deryck: Not really. Not in many ways. The main difference between Canadians and Americans is that Canadian girls will give you blowjobs a lot faster than American girls.

Livewire: So where did the inspiration for the "We're all to Blame" (Solid Gold) video come from?

Deryck: We had different ideas. I mean the song is kinda serious and heavy and we go with the best idea and usually the best idea is the stupidist idea and in that case it was. We thought that it would be funny.

Livewire: Drink of choice?

Deryck: Jack Daniels. Actually, I have two drinks of choice and it's for different occasions. If I'm on tour I'll drink Jack because for some reason Jack Daniels doesn't hurt my voice as much. I think because it's really thick and it kind of coats my throat. My drink of choice, if I didn't have to worry about anything, is Grey Goose on the rocks.

Livewire: It's good, but you can afford that - I can't.

Deryck: (laughs) It's only a few dollars more, man.

Livewire: How's the tour with Good Charlotte going?

Deryck: Oh, it's going good. I mean they're great guys and we've been friends for a long time. We use to tour together, years ago, before either of us has had any success. We've always said that we'd do another tour together and it just so happened that our records were coming out at the same time - so it just made sense.

Livewire: Who would you like to tour with next?

Deryck: I don't know - we usually don't go out on tour with other bands. We just like to do our own thing. We were talking about touring with Green Day and New Found Glory, but their records came out before ours - so we couldn't. Green Day would've been a band we would have liked to tour with. The Beastie Boys would have been cool too.

Livewire: If you could open for anyone, who would it be for?

Deryck: We've done it and it was Metallica! We played about five or six shows with them last summer.

Livewire: So, you're telling me that you'd take Metallica over Nirvana, the Doors, Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles?!!?

Deryck: Yes I would!

Livewire: How long can Sum 41 go?

Deryck: As long as we're enjoying it, really.

Livewire: But, what if you're not enjoying it and still making money?

Deryck: We have money man. (laughs) We don't need to do it for money anymore. We're simple people and we like being on the road together. If we didn't like it we definately wouldn't do it. We've turned down offers of well over a million dollars to do things that we just wouldn't do. We care about our band and we're not doing it for money.

Livewire: If you could endorse only one product, what would it be?

Deryck: (laughs) It would probably be some kind of liquor.

Livewire: What was it like working with Iggy Pop?

Deryck: It was REALLY cool. It was one of those things that was just out of the blue. I was so blown away by it. Iggy wants to do a song with us?!!? I just couldn't believe it. I got a call from our manager and he was like "hey Iggy wants to do a song with you guys, like would you be into it? I'm like Yeeeaaaahhh!! are you crazy? (laughs) He says "Iggy wants you to call him." I'm like fuck, I'm going to call Iggy Pop. I was really nervous, I didn't know what the fuck to say to him. So, I call and I say "Hey uh is Iggy there?" I mean I didn't know what to say. He was really cool. After about five minutes of talking to him I wasn't nervous at all. He was really cool - he was like an old friend - really cool. We talked for like an hour. After the call I immediately went and picked up my guitar and wrote this little thing and sent it to him the next day and he loved it. We went back and forth on the song and we met up two weeks later and went into the studio and did it in two days.

Livewire: Do you think he's the most important figure in punk?

Deryck: I think collectively there's a few people - I mean obvioulsy Iggy, for sure, and of course the Sex Pistols and the Ramones are tops for me. I mean, you wouldn't have them without Iggy. I mean young people now can probaly quote the Ramones and the Sex Pistols over Iggy, but Iggy started it all.

Livewire: Describe Sum 41 in a few words.

Deryck: (laughs) Young, dumb and full of cum.

Avril Lavigne Interview

"Hey hey you you, I don't like your girlfriend, no way no way I think you need a new one," chants Avril in her latest smash hit single "Girlfriend," reminiscing on Toni Basil's everpopular "Hey Mickey." The bratty in-your-face chanteuse indulged her life without a flinch. Starting with her newest LP The Best Damn Thing. "Going into this record I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I didn't have any help from the label, I had no A&R guy. I A&R-ed my album. No management." Avril recorded songs and no one heard anything from the record until she turned it in for approval.

"The six months of recording, writing, and producing this album has been a creativeThe Best Damn Thing (in stores now). Avril's first album Let Go, released in 2002 when she was only 17, sold 16 million copies worldwide. It spawned such hits as "Complicated" and "Sk8r Boy." Her follow-up Under My Skin would prove to be cohesive and dark, but would not sell as much as her previous work. "I sort of explored a more vulnerable side in
that record." When asked about label mate Kelly Clarkson's struggle, Lavigne says "She sold millions of records.

Kelly Clarkson i
s the only Idol I think has truely made it. She deserves to have her own hand at the creative process." Written by Avril herself, "Breakaway" was a successful single. "Her contract is different than others, she's supposed to be this puppet - and she buckled down and stood her ground. She's a great songwriter. Her sound changes and people change with it." The Best Damn Thing is about "being a sh--head and being a princess, and not taking crap from guys. 'Girlfriend' was different for me because it's kind of rappy." experience," she says of
I worked with Dr Luke on a lot of the tracks. I evolved to the next level. The fans want newrunning around the studio, being crazy, skateboarding, doing this and that. We wrote about drinking Limoncello. How random is that. I'm pretty random." No doubt about that, Avril. "Butch Walker worked with me too. He's such an amazing songwriter and singer and producer. He has his own album," Avril says with giddy excitement, in which she cowrote "When You're Gone."

This record is a more jumping around record, contrast to the gothic downtempos of Under My Skin. Lavigne says, her next album had to be "energetic. I like singing the fast songs. They're fun to sing live. This is exactly what I want to do." But even so, she still seems to let people hear how she feels intimately. "'When You're Gone' I wrote about Deryck," says Lavigne of her husband Deryck Whibley of Sum41.

Recording the album, she drank Limoncello and bottles of Jager. However she says "I don't drink that much anymore. I've matured." as she claims to be sipping champagne. Contradicting what she just said "I love champagne during the day." Whibley doesn't get too weirded out when she pukes in both bathrooms.

"Working with Deryck, was.. I like his music and I think h
e is really good at what he does. The songs I gave him were kind of along the lines of pop-punk pop-rock songs." She then credits how amazing he is as a guitarist. Her hubby was already recording an album with Sum41 so he had everything set up already. "Stevo from Sum41 did drums on the tracks I worked with Deryck on."

As Avril matures and grows into being a woman she is having a load of fun along the way. "Who's producer lets you pepper spray them? Tazer them? Luke was washing his face for like twenty minutes. It was burning for forty-five minutes or so." the "Girlfriend" superstar says about Dr Luke. "With men, I can get away with whatever I want." stuff," she says about her newest record. "'I Can DoBetter' is one of my favorites. Luke and I were just

It's not everyday an artist of her calliber can sing, write, and play. She took part in her song "I Can Do Better" playing a sleek guitar riff. "I don't want to play on the record because I want it to be amazing. Except 'I Can Do Better' where the guitar was just so laid back. Whatever." grunts Lavigne. "Innocence is such a beautiful song. It's about capturing a moment of perfection." It's a ballad which was originally visioned to be a rocking song. Avril was allowed to carry out her vision with former bandmate/ best friend Evan Taubenfeld. "I'm glad I changed it. It's more laid back. I'm happy with it. The strings almost made me cry, it was that moving." It was so moving, she only did two vocal takes and it was captured as heard on the LP. All while she was "hammered" as she screamed from the studio.

THE CLASH - STRUMMER'S WIDOW REVEALS CACHE OF UNHEARD CLASH SONGS

(Contact Music) The widow of THE CLASH frontman JOE STRUMMER has unearthed a treasure trove of scribbled notes, cartoons, and forgotten song lyrics left by the late musician. In her first interview since the rocker died in 2002, Lucinda Mellor tells how the secret possessions will form the basis of a tribute book to the uniquely talented musician, which will be produced in conjunction with his friend, the artist Damien Hirst.

The discovery was made in a room buried in the depths of the farmhouse she shared with her husband, which she rarely if ever ventured into while he was alive. When Strummer returned home after a tour, he would throw his suitcases into the room, leaving them jumbled alongside other suitcases he brought back from his travels.

Mellor left the suitcases untouched until long after her husband died of an undiagnosed congenital heart defect. But when she finally ventured into the room to investigate the baggage, she was astonished at the contents

VAN HALEN'S L.A. HOME THREATENED BY MUDDY WATERS:

December 10, 2007

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Rock guitarist Eddie Van Halen's Hollywood Hills home home narrowly escaped serious damage on Monday, after a broken water main sent mud and debris gushing across his yard, the Los Angeles Times reported on its Web site.

Van Halen's swimming pool disappeared under the deluge, and potted plants and trees were also demolished, his girlfriend Janie Liszewski told the paper. But the house was saved after firefighters fortified it with sandbags, she said.

The couple were not at home when the destruction started shortly after midnight on Monday. They were in the Canadian city of Edmonton for a reunion concert the night before by Van Halen's eponymous band.

They returned on Monday to survey the damage, which was caused by a broken air valve on a water main, the paper said. It sent torrents of water through the streets of the bucolic Coldwater Canyon neighborhood, but Van Halen's property was the only one affected by the flood.

Secret Green Day Songs?
Contact Music reports: Rockers Green Day have prompted rumours of a secret side project, after fans realised new music released under the name FOXBORO HOT TUBS sounded remarkably like the band.

The group are currently working on a follow-up to their 2004 disc, American Idiot, but the stark similarities in vocals between Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong and those on the Foxboro Hot Tubs' EP have got Internet blogs wondering whether the Holiday hitmakers have gone undercover to experiment with a new 1960s-inspired sound. [listen at http://www.myspace.com/foxborohottubs]

If Green Day are proven to be behind the Foxboro Hot Tubs, it would not be the first time they have released tracks under a pseudonym [Doesn't just about every emo/pop-punk singer these days try sound a bit like Billie Joe? The trick we hear is to hold your nostrils closed while singing. More on the past secret release here]

Fall Out Boy Mad About Grammy Snub
Gigwise reports: Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz has hit at the Grammy Awards after his group failed to pick up a single nomination for the music industry back-patting event.

The bassist used Fall Out Boy's journal on their official website to vent his frustration at the snubbing under the title 'got bitterness? vs. a revelation on true connection (and the award goes to).'

With mixed feelings, he writes (typos and all): "the first reaction is jealousy mixed with a slight sense of entitlement. we just want to be a part of your club. we feel like the orphans in the movie the warriors, when we are just dying to be the baseball furies. the truth be told though when you explore it further than that you realize much more. other than the fact that we play the events for you and the right parties all the time (which is a bit embarrassing either for you or us, not sure which, possibly both. its kind of like being invited to a birthday party and then not allowed to eat the cake.)- it shouldnt mean much. (almost) noone in this industry has vision beyond the fear that this week is their last pay check.

Police have confirmed sometime Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty was attacked in his local pub last weekend.

According to reports, Doherty was "punched in the face" by a drug dealer at the Sun Inn, Marlborough, Wiltshire.

However, it apparently wasn't over any outstanding debt or other such business, but rather because the dealer was upset he was not being patronised by Doherty and his infamous habit.

Whilst Police confirmed to the Mirror, "We are investigating," an onlooker reports the dealer told Pete during the attack, "You should get your gear from me."

"It was horrible. Pete was really shaken up and upset," they add.

Babyshambles' label Parlophone have confirmed Doherty was attacked on Sunday, but claimed it was a stranger with no involement in drugs.
It is not known whether the incident was in any way responsible for his no show at his band's London gig on Thursday night.

Rocker AVRIL LAVIGNE angered concert-goers by turning up over an hour late to a free gig in her native Canada - leaving scores of young fans waiting in the snow. The 23-year-old was due to take the stage at 1pm for an outdoor concert to celebrate the opening of a Best Buy store in Burnaby, Canada, but didn't show up until after 2pm, according to reports. The audience began to walk out after the singer left them waiting for over an hour in the freezing weather conditions. Many of the unhappy fans - who were mostly teenagers - had already queued for several hours to take their places for the gig.

Green Day To Begin New CD Next Month - A Top Story This Week

.
(Punknews.org) According to Green Day Authority, a popular Green Day fan site, the band will be hitting the studio in January to begin work on their next album: We got an update this week from Green Day's manager about what the band is up to now. He let us know that Green Day will be going back to the studio in January, and that we should look forward to a new greenday.com and perhaps some new photos around that time.

He mentioned that the band was going to begin stepping away from all American Idiot themes, and that the new site wasn't going to be themed around the new album. I asked about the progress of the new album, and it didn't sound like we should expect anything too soon. Lets hope we'll get a full update about what kind of stuff they're working on early next year.

In related news, the band was recently named as the "Best Grammy Performance." You can check out the band's winning performance of "American Idiot"

U2 Changing Sound for New CD - A Top Story This Week

(Launch) Bono has warned U2 fans they will "feel the difference" with the material they are working on for their next album. The singer explained that the band are currently working in the south of France on the follow-up to 2004's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. Following demo sessions in Africa earlier in the year, the singer reckons the new record will surprise people. The singer said the band is now working through those demos during the French sessions and that while the new record is not world music, he promised fans would "feel the difference.""U2 in dancefloor shock!" joked Bono. "Normally when you play a U2 tune, it clears the dancefloor. And that may not be true of this. There's some trance influences. But there's some very hardcore guitar coming out of the Edge. Real molten metal. It's not like anything we've ever done before, and we don't think it sounds like anything anyone else has done either."

My favor song

Artist : U2
Song : With or Without You
Album : Joshua Tree
See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
I wait for you

Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait without you

With or without you
With or without you

Through the storm we reach the shore
You give it all but I want more
And Im waiting for you

With or without you
With or without you
I cant live
With or without you

And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away

My hands are tied
My body bruised, shes got me with
Nothing to win and
Nothing left to lose

And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away

With or without you
With or without you
I cant live
With or without you

With or without you
With or without you
I cant live
With or without you
With or without you

Favor Song

Artist : Bush
Title : Machinehead
from : Sixteen Stone (1994)

Breathe in breathe out
Tied to a wheel fingers got to feel
Bleeding through a tourniquet smile
I spin on a whim slide to the right
I felt you like electric light
For our love
For our fear
For our rise against the years and years and years

Chorus:
Got a machinehead better than the rest
Green to red machinehead
I walk from my machine
I walk from my machine

Deaf dumb and thirty
Starting to deserve this
Leaning on my conscience wall
Blood is like wine
Unconscious all the time
If I had it all again
I'd change it all

Repeat Chorus

Pantera Frontman Spawns Punk Band

12/06/2007
.
(PR) Arson Anthem will be the first release via Housecore Records; a label created by Philip H. Anselmo and is the definitive collection of side projects, and projects he believes in. The band features Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera, Down, Superjoint Ritual), Mike IX Williams (EyeHateGod, Outlaw Order), III (Assjack, Superjoint Ritual), and Collin Yeo. Their debut EP will be out 2/19/08. Here is a little about the band:

With the current roster of supposed "extreme" or "underground" bands repetitively dishing out modern metal regurgitation, something had to give; enter Arson Anthem. Basking in the telepathic glow of filthy, vicious 80's-era punk and hardcore, and yearning for a spark, this improper outfit has finally ignited said spark. Fueled by stale vodka and non-filters, they've finally wrecked into a bare-bones, distorted, bastard vacuum.

After losing everything in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Mike Williams moved into Philip’s spare apartment. The two spent countless hours listening to Philip’s collection of early hardcore bands; the timing was perfect to remedy this cabin fever. They began jamming with III and Collin Yeo, and this proved to be the crowning accession to complete this exploit. United by the perpetual drive to create "the sound" of a time in the past, these longtime friends strike the chords that have echoed forever in their rattled minds. The fury of Arson Anthem will serve as a real threat to a genre flailing in the hollow of an underground scene in need of resuscitation.

Rob Zombie Live Review

Rob Zombie's studio recordings depend on production trickery – movie dialogue excerpts, techno flourishes and guitars processed to sound far bigger than they could naturally. And his live shows earned their notoriety for shock theatrics. So it should surprise no one that Zombie Live captures the best aspects of neither.

It's actually quite stunning how the simple requirement of live performance can suck the life out of these tracks. The crowd seems to be enjoying itself, and the stage explosion pictured on the cover looks pretty cool, but a few microphones just can't take in the energy. Even if, for a live album, the sound quality is quite good.

The biggest letdown is "Living Dead Girl," Zombie's all-time most enjoyable studio composition. As soon as the guitars have to actually sound like guitars – as opposed to super-compressed, full-spectrum wads of fuzz – the whole thing falls apart. Zombie's missing some of the crucial vocal rhythms and melodies doesn't help. Same goes for pretty much everything off Hellbilly Deluxe and The Sinister Urge, including "Never Gonna Stop (The Red, Red Kroovy)," "Superbeast" and "Dragula."

That isn't to say it's all bad. A full 18 tracks make the CD, giving fans a decent value for their money. Also, the old White Zombie material always had more of a live feel, as did Zombie's last solo release, Educated Horses.

The slide-guitar riff on "More Human than Human" sounds as unhinged as it ever did, and if anything, "Thunderkiss '65" comes off with more energy (at least until John 5 wanks for two minutes at the end – what is this, 1986?). The guitars of "American Witch," which lead the record after a "Sawdust in the Blood" intro, chug convincingly.

This is an album for diehard fans; it will bring back memories for those who've seen Zombie in person, and there's some extra value in a few of the performances. However, anyone looking for a simple hits collection should turn to Past, Present & Future.
